Does better work always mean better workers?

Google Research ran a three-month randomized controlled trial with 133 patent lawyers across eleven firms, giving most early access to an AI patent-drafting tool while a control group waited. AI access reliably improved drafting quality for everyone, but when the tool was removed for an unassisted redlining task, only senior lawyers (7+ years) showed a durable judgment gain; junior lawyers showed no average improvement, with their scores instead splitting into more very-low and more good outcomes.

On the Reliability of LLM-Based Vulnerability Patching Benchmarks

A new arXiv paper argues that benchmarks for LLM-based automated vulnerability patching are unreliable: prompting and tool setup can inflate PoC-passing success without producing developer-quality fixes. Using 112 historical bugs across 84 open-source C/C++, Go, and Rust projects with richer developer-aligned tests, the authors find that while PoC pass rates look strong, developer-test pass rates stay low and barely improve with newer models.

RoboJEPA: Scaling Robotic Latent World Models

Researchers (including authors from Meta/FAIR-affiliated groups and academic labs) present RoboJEPA, an 8B-parameter JEPA-based world model trained on robot data spanning 12 embodiments. They claim the first established scaling law for multi-embodiment robotic world models, show imagination error predicts downstream planning performance, and demonstrate zero-shot goal-image-based planning on real hardware, releasing checkpoints and code.
